Every dime donated to Venus Theatre either goes to rent, utitlities, project materials, or (and, we'd like at least 80% of our income to go back out to) the artists.
It is the goal of Venus to continue to participate actively in the Laurel Arts District Committee as well as the Laurel Board of Trade, the City of Laurel, the Prince Georges County Arts Council, and the Maryland Council for the Arts, with the ultimate goal of creating jobs for professional artists in Historic Laurel, MD.
As development continues in the area we know that amazing resources surround us and the challenge is to open up funding channels through an understanding of how the arts create industry.
For every dollar spent at an arts event in Maryland, $2,40 is spent at a surrounding retail establishment.
With Konterra now in full development 3 miles away, the Laurel Park Race Track representing the history of our industry, not to mention holding millions in revenue stream, just 1/2 a mile away, Ft. Meade and the BRAC initiative bringing in thousands of new employees only 8 miles away, and Kingbeil and Associates beginning construction at the end of C Street sometime very soon...
...we know that the time is now to create. To work together. To embrace the metaphor that water rises collectively and seeks its own level.
It is the great hope of Venus that the love of creativity will drive the changes going on all around us.
