Venus Theatre is leaving C Street.
It’s time for us to say goodbye to Laurel.
We’re grateful to our many supporters.
In our 15 years at 21 C Street, you’ve helped us
become the longest-running women’s regional theater in the nation;
launch programming for children and adults in our community;
give opportunities to hundreds (upon hundreds!) of artists;
welcome playwrights from around the world—from New York, Colorado, and Tennessee to England, Kosovo, and Australia;
see many of our plays go on to be published by major publishing houses;
land major press coverage in the Baltimore Sun and the Washington Post;
receive countless awards;
give out lifetime achievement awards to the brave artists we admire;
watch pioneers of equality share our modest stage. We take their stories and their lessons to heart and are forever transformed by them.
Add to all of this the deep conversations, the guitar-strumming jam sessions, and the endless waves of laughter from so many late nights in our lobby, and we couldn’t be prouder to have spent these years in the House-That-Love-Built.
We’d hoped to thrive forever in what once promised to be a burgeoning arts district. However, due to the pandemic and the changing landscape of C Street, this is no longer a welcoming place for our artists and audiences.
We are moving forward, and we are excited for the future. Be on the lookout for Venus safe-space retreats and events as we return to our nomadic roots and self-stage new works up and down the Eastern seaboard.
